Miguel Méndez Itarte


Miguel Mendez is a Partner in the Litigation and Arbitration Department in Garrigues´ Canary Islands office. He worked for another Law Firm prior to joining Garrigues in 2006.

He focuses on litigation relating to corporate/commercial and civil matters, particularly corporate disputes and Director´s liability disputes; construction disputes; time-shares, Industrial Property and unfair competition related issues. His experience also includes representing several mediums in proceedings relating to the right to honor, privacy and personal portrayal.

Mr. Mendez has represented a large number of clients in arbitration proceedings and he is currently an arbitrator of the Arbitration Courts of the Chambers of Commerce of Las Palmas and Lanzarote.

Miguel Mendez has experience in corporate restructuring, refinancing and insolvency proceedings. He has assisted debtors and creditors (mainly financial institutions) in most of the major restructuring and insolvency proceedings which have taken place in the Canary Islands in the recent years.

He is a lecturer in Insolvency & Restructuring and Procedural Law in the Master of Business Law at the Fundacion Mapfre-Guanarteme, the Master of Banking and Finance at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, and the Insolvency Expert Course at ESCOEX.

He is a regular speaker at seminars and courses organized by Garrigues and other specialist centers, and he is a regular contributor to various media outlets and journals.

Mr. Mendez is a member of the Las Palmas Bar Association.
