Antonio Baena is the partner in charge of G-advisoryAbre ventana nueva, a subsidiary of the Garrigues group providing technical, economic and strategic consultancy services in the areas of energy, the environment, climate change and sustainability, where it is the market leader and an industry benchmark. Previously, he worked at Alatec, Haskoning and Tudor.

Among other areas, he is an expert in renewable energies, energy efficiency, climate change and waste management and treatment. He specializes in providing technical advice to developers and financial institutions on analyzing the technical and economic viability of projects, advice on the development and financing of such projects under project finance arrangements and the negotiation and drafting of construction, operation and maintenance agreements.

On the renewable energies front, he can boast experience across almost all technologies developed at an industrial level: wind, photovoltaic, thermosolar, biomass, biogas, mini-hydraulic, cogeneration and waste energy recovery. Elsewhere, he regularly advises on the procurement of energy services, in both the public and private sectors, and the design and implementation of energy efficiency plans and measures. He can also draw on a wealth of experience in the design of climate change strategies, emissions trading and the application of development mechanisms within the framework of the Kyoto Protocol.

He has taken part in numerous projects relating to waste management and treatment and has extensive experience of the various technologies used in this area: collection systems, integrated waste management systems, sorting plants, waste bio digestion and composting, incineration, sewerage, etc. An expert in environmental legislation, he regularly advises companies on industrial and environmental matters and has participated in numerous environmental due diligence reviews in processes for the sale and purchase of industrial assets.

He can also draw on experience of the integrated water cycle and regularly participates in due diligence reviews of sale and purchases and financing of assets relating to water catchment, supply and distribution, as well as water drainage and purification infrastructure.

He sits on the Environmental Committees of the Spanish Employers’ Association and the Madrid Association of Industrial Engineers. He is also a member of the Environmental and Energy Policies Working Group of the Spanish Energy Club. He sits on the judging panel of the Sustainability and Environmental Awards staged by Garrigues Medio Ambiente, Expansión and Wolters Kluwer.

Moreover, he is a regular speaker at both national and international conferences staged by an array of organizations (EOI, IIR, IFAES, Intereconomía, etc.) on subjects as varied as renewable energies, waste management and treatment, project finance, waste prevention and minimization, contract negotiation in environmental and renewable energy projects, environmental management, etc.

Member of the Madrid Association of Industrial Engineers.
