Fernando Vives, executive chairman of Garrigues, has received the Chambers Europe Award for his outstanding contribution to the legal profession. The international directory Chambers and Partners bestows the exclusive Outstanding Contribution Award on the most influential lawyers in the profession who are also leaders in their respective practice areas. This year, for the first time in the history of the awards, the ceremony was held in Madrid, bringing together lawyers from the most prestigious firms in 20 European countries.
Garrigues has taken the award for ‘Law Firm of the Year: Iberia’, conferred by UK publication The Lawyer at its annual European Awards ceremony in London. The award, to which the major Spanish and Portuguese law firms aspire, was also won by the firm two years ago. This year, Garrigues was also shortlisted in another two categories: ‘Global Strategic Initiative of the Year’ and ‘European Law Firm of the Year’, where it was the only Spanish law firm in the running.
Garrigues partners José Luis Ortín and David Vich have been ranked among the forty most outstanding young lawyers working in the legal sector in Spain and Portugal. The fifth edition of the “40 under Forty’ awards - which are presented by the international journal Iberian Lawyer every two years - was held yesterday in Barcelona.
The Ministry of Health, Social Services and Equal Opportunity has awarded Garrigues the distinction of being an Equal Opportunity Company, a brand of excellence that acknowledges companies that stand out “in a relevant and specially significant way in the application of equal opportunity Plan policies”. Garrigues is the only law firm this year to achieve the distinction (published last Saturday in the Official State Gazette), which has been awarded to companies in different sectors since 2010.
