The portuguese branch of Garrigues starts operating
(18/01/05) Garrigues started operating in Portugal, on January 1, through Garrigues, Leónidas, Matos SC, after integrating Portuguese practice Leónidas, Matos & Associados, already associated with Garrigues.
Leónidas, Matos & Associados –head office in Lisbon- was organized in 2001 with 7 lawyers. Four years later, the new firm has approximately 45 lawyers, coordinated by partners João Paulo Teixeira Matos and Diogo Leónidas Rocha.
Garrigues’s presence in Portugal is a key element in its international expansion process, commenced on February 4, 2004, with the formation of the Latin American Alliance of Law Firms, promoted by the Spanish law firm. Garrigues Leónidas Matos, SC has become part of this international network, other partners of which are the firms Barbosa, Müssnich y Aragão, in Brazil; Bruchou, Fernández Madero, Lombardi & Mitrani, in Argentina; and Mijares, Angoitia, Cortes y Fuentes, SC, in Mexico. The extension of the alliance allows clients to receive identical legal assistance and advice in any of the five countries within the network.
