Garrigues and Spain Startup launch a project to promote LegalTech projects at South Summit

The law firm Garrigues and Spain Startup, the organizer of South Summit, have reached an agreement to launch a project to select and promote new initiatives in the LegalTech field. The agreement envisages both identification of the main research projects conducted each year at Spanish and international universities, and the promotion of small early-stage startups, provided that the initiatives in question involve combining legal activity with technology and developing automation and robotization, among other areas.

Of all the options and projects selected from universities and startup platforms, four will have the privilege of presenting their idea on the demo stage at South Summit 2017 which this year will include for the first time a LegalTech Competition organized by Garrigues.

The final winning initiative will also receive a package consisting of free advisory hours to be provided by the firm’s legal experts in order to launch the project. The call for applications to participate in this process opens in May and will close on September 15.

More than 12,500 participants

South Summit, which will take place on October 4, 5 and 6, has become in recent years a worldwide benchmark for innovation and startup launches. South Summit is a global platform that brings together the key players in the entrepreneurial ecosystem and in a mere four years has become the leading innovation event with 12,500 attendees from over 100 countries, 650 investors, 160 companies and over 900 million dollars raised by its finalist startups.

In launching this initiative, both Spain Startup and Garrigues seek to promote university research, strengthen the entrepreneurial ecosystem and foster entrepreneurship in projects that arise out of the LegalTech world. The aim is to present the entrepreneurial talent of small startups and university research centers to the international investment community.
